CPT is an evidence based treatment for PTSD, typically offered in 10-15 weekly or twice a week sessions.

 

CPT has three main goals:

1. Reflect– improve understanding , examine impact of trauma of the trauma on your thoughts and feelings and to decrease avoidance and emotional numbing.

2. Redefine– learn how to evaluate your thinking consider alternate view points of the trauma, yourself and the world

3. Recover: Reduce distress related to memory of trauma, reduce feelings of anxiety anger guilt and shame, and to improve daily living

CPT has three phases/parts:

  1. You become aware of your thoughts and feelings ex: stuck points
  2. Focus on learning skills to help you challenge your thoughts
  3. Understanding changes in beliefs
